Stationary Batteries (Chapter 57)
New A4 chapter for battery energy storage supplying installations.
Scope
Chapter 57 applies to stationary secondary batteries used for electrical energy storage and to supply the installation (e.g. home battery storage alongside PV). It does not cover batteries inside equipment such as UPS units or EVs themselves.
Key points
Select a location suitable for the battery chemistry (ventilation, temperature, fire risk and access), provide overcurrent protection and means of isolation for DC circuits close to the battery, use DC-rated devices, provide warning notices that the installation has more than one source of supply, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Coordinate with Chapter 82 for prosumer installations.
