EV Charging (Section 722)

Dedicated circuit, RCD type and PME rules.

Key points

Each charging point on its own final circuit (722.311.201). Each connection point protected by its own 30 mA RCD of at least Type A with DC fault protection (6 mA RDC-DD) or Type B (722.531.3.101). PME earthing must not be used for outdoor charge points unless one of the methods of 722.411.4.1 is applied (e.g. open-PEN detection device).

A4:2026 changes

Section 722 was updated in A4, including requirements where EV charging equipment is used bidirectionally (vehicle-to-home / vehicle-to-grid) so the vehicle acts as a source of supply — the prosumer rules of Chapter 82 and the isolation requirements for multiple sources then apply.
